SUPER BOWL XLVI - Indianapolis

Indianapolis- Lucas Oil Stadium is the venue for Super Bowl XLVI; this year’s Super Bowl truly is going to be an exciting one. There are so many story lines to go with this great game. We have a rematch of super Bowl XLII between the New York Giants vs. the New England Patriots. Last time these two teams met on this stage the Patriots were one win away from a perfect season something that has only been done once in the NFLs history. The Pats needed to win the Super Bowl to write their name in the books as probably the greatest team to step on the gridiron, but with one incredible play by Eli manning he dashed away all of the hard work the Pats had put into the season. You can bet that the Patriots that were on that 07 team will look for some revenge.
Not only is this a rematch between the organizations but it is also a rematch between head coaches and Quarterbacks. Tom Brady is facing a Giants defensive line that is great at getting to the quarterback and making him feel uncomfortable. Eli Manning is going up against the 31st defense in the league, but who oddly enough lead the league in turnovers, not a easy match up by any stretch of the imagination. Bill Belichick is the head coach of the Patriots and he was the coach when they lost in 07 also. The Patriots had not won a single playoff game since the 07 loss until this year and many say that the Giants have a mental edge over the Pats due to their recent success against the Pats. Coach Coughlin was also the Head coach of the Giants back in 07 and he hasn’t had the easiest time in New York since his great win in 07. The Giants missed the playoffs in the 09 and 10 seasons, there were talks about Coughlin being done and it might be time for a new face in the organization. With late season wins against the NY Jets and Dallas Cowboys the Giants won their division and are in the Super Bowl again under Coughlin.  Now there are fans in New York who are talking Hall of Fame for the great coach if he can come away with the win, this just shows how fast and far you can go with a few good wins.
Something both teams have this year is high octane offenses, and playmakers that can change the flow of the game with one move. For the Giants you have Victor Cruz who is a wide receiver who stands a 6 foot tall weighs about 205 and has had a record breaking year. He totaled 82 receptions for over 1,500 yards and brought in 9 touchdowns, he set most receiving yards for a Giants wide receiver in the history of the franchise. On the other end you have a stud tight end that goes by the name of Rob Gronkowski, he tallied up some recorded breaking numbers as well this season. He finished the year with 90 receptions for over 1300 yards and finished with the all time recorded for touchdown receptions by a tight end with 17. Both of these athletes will have a huge impact on the game but what seems to b e a bigger story than these two great athletes is the condition of Gronkowski’s ankle. In the AFC championship Gronkowski had his ankle rolled and fallen on, he was rushed into the locker room as the game went on, but shortly returned to the field. The reason that people are worried is because after the game he was seen wearing a boot for his ankle and there were reports that his father came out to the media and said the injury is a high ankle sprain which is something very tough to recover from. Whether or not Gronkowski plays New England is still run by one of the best coaches in the game, and is lead by one of the greatest quarterbacks who ever laced up a pair of cleats.
The Patriots are 3 point favorites coming into this Super Bowl which is a staggering amount but most people think that this will be another 07 upset. Analysts from all over are picking the Giants to steal another ring from Brady and Belichick, but with this much pressure on the Giants to reproduce a miracle win will they have the stuff to hold on and win their second super Bowl win in 4 years? I Guess we will have to wait and see with great anticipation.
This Super Bowl is going to be one for the ages I hope everyone’s got their popcorn ready because the show is about to start, we are a short 3 days away to the greatest spectacle in sports the Super Bowl!!
